From the early 1970s Ruscha began to turn away from his iconic Gas Station Americana and started making drawings and paintings of single words or short phrases placed against soft unmodulated backgrounds. They all appear as the main focal point, appealing to the artist for both their visual and phonetic forms but they also took on paradoxical resonance in isolation from their mundane contexts.
Condition: Very good condition. One minor area of skinning in the upper left sheet, verso. Remnant of adhesive tape, verso.
