It is also hand inscribed in pencil “CTP” [Colour Trial Proof] at the lower left margin. Our impression is one of twelve colour trial proofs in various tones aside from the standard edition of 20. The standard edition was published by The Litho Shop Inc., Santa Monica, California in 1982. This subject is recorded in the Sam Francis Archive with the identification number SFE-003.

Additional Information: This portfolio titled “Dedie a L’Elegance” contains a lithograph based on a gouache by the French Ballet Russes artist Christian Berard. The lithograph is signed in the plate “Berard” at the lower right hand corner. It was printed in a limited edition of 2,000 impressions in Paris. There is a number in black ink 176/2000 inside the front cover. The portfolio contains also a black and white lithograph by Andre Fougeron (French painter), one by Valentine Hugo, and finally one in colour by Konchageos.
Condition: Discolouration and some foxing. Some tears throughout and some paper missing along the edges.

The edition was of only 125 impressions plus a few artist proofs that this is one of them.
This early and rare etching represents the early part of Friedlaender career, before his compositios became more abstract. It´s a fine example of the period just before the abstraction but still not a complete figurative composition.
