This is an original double-sided pencil drawing by Mihaly von Munkácsy.
The recto sketch was made in preparation for "The Apotheosis of the Renaissance" created for the ceiling of Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna around 1890.
The work is stamp signed with the artist's signature in the right lower corner on the recto and verso.
Provenance: Private collection, Germany.
The work is accompanied by a photo certificate of authenticity from 24th June 2003, issued by the expert Mrs. Judit Boros.
Condition: Very good condition. Surface dirt. Creasing in the lower left and lower right corners. Paper loss in the lower right corner. A small tear on the lower sheet edge. Small hole in the upper right corner. Minor remains of hinging tape verso.

Provenance
The work was part of a large Munkácsy collection in Germany. The work was physically examined by Mrs. Boros Judit who is an Art historian specializing in 19th century Hungarian Art and in particular the works of Munkacsy . We will provide the high bidder a photo certificate of authenticity from Mrs. Judit Boros. The certificate is hand written on the back side of a large photograph of the drawing and is signed and stamped by Mrs. Boros. (see image). It reads as follows: "I Judit Boros art Hisorian, specializing on 19th century Hungarian Art, Confirm that this is a photo of an original pencil study of M. de MUNKACSY (1884-1900), Prepared for the composition: "Christ befor Pilate" . Dimension: 209 on 169 mm Signed. 7th Nov 2003."15
