This is an original pencil drawing by Mihaly von Munkácsy.
It was made in preparation for the oil painting "Christ Before Pilate" from 1881.
The work is hand signed in pencil at the lower right corner.

Provenance: Private collection, Germany.
The work is accompanied by a photo certificate of authenticity from 7th Nov 2003, issued by the expert Mrs. Judit Boros.

Condition: Very good condition. Surface dirt. Minor staining. Soft fold in the lower left corner. Remains of tape verso.

The work was part of a large Munkácsy collection in Germany. The work was physically examined by Mrs. Boros Judit who is an Art historian specializing in 19th century Hungarian Art and in particular the works of Munkacsy . We will provide the high bidder a photo certificate of authenticity from Mrs. Judit Boros. The certificate is hand written on the back side of a large photograph of the drawing and is signed and stamped by Mrs. Boros. (see image). It reads as follows: "I Judit Boros art Hisorian, specializing on 19th century Hungarian Art, Confirm that this is a photo of an original pencil study of M. de MUNKACSY (1884-1900), Prepared for the composition: "Christ befor Pilate" . Dimension: 209 on 169 mm Signed. 7th Nov 2003."
