This original etching is hand signed by the artist "Jacques Villon", at the lower right margin.
Furthermore the work is Signed and Dated in the plate in the left middle “Jacques Villon 14” (1914).
It is also hand inscribed in pencil 'Tiré a 50', at the lower left margin.
This etching was printed in 1914 in a small limited edition of 50 Hand Signed and Numbered Impressions and a few Artist Proofs (our work is one of them).
The paper bears a partial Arches watermark in the upper left corner.

Provenance: This is a very early work by Villon dated from 1914. It belonged to The Collection of Olga Carre-Burel formally known as the Collection of Louis Carre. This was one of the most important collections of Villon's work in the world if not the most important one. Olga Carre (born Burel) was the wife of the important Paris Gallery owner and Collector Louis Carre. He passed away in 1977 and so his wife, Olga Carre, inherited his collection. Louis Carre was the main dealer of Jacques Villon and exhibited his works regularly in his Gallery in Paris and New York. Most of their collection was bought directly from the artists.

Literature: de Ginestet, C. & Pouillon, C. (1973). Jacques Villon-Les Estampes, Les Illustrations-Catalogue Raisonné. Paris: Arts et Metiers Graphiques.
Reference: Ginestet et Pouillon E. 287 (fully illustrated in page 183).
