HERMINE DAVID French, 1886-1970

Miami, 1915
Signed, Titled and Dated Watercolour Drawing on thin Wove Paper
34 x 25 cm. / 13.4 x 9.8 in.
Unique
This watercolour drawing by the French artist Hermine David is signed by the artist in black ink “Hermine David” at the lower left corner.
It is also titled and dated in black ink below the signature “Miami, 1915”.

Note: Hermine was born into an artistic family, being the granddaughter of Jacques Louis David (1748-1825), one of France’s preeminent Neoclassical painters. Hermine enrolled at the age of 16 at the École des Beaux-Arts and later studied at the prestigious l’Académie Julian. She was a skilled painter and printmaker, who regularly exhibited with Salon des Femmes Peintres and Sculpteurs. She joined the École de Paris artist’s group and lived in Montparnasse, where she met the Bulgarian artist, Jules Pascin. In 1915 the couple embarked on a 5-year trip to the United States, ultimately settling in New York, but visiting New Orleans, Charleston, Tampa and Miami in the year that they arrived.

Condition: Very good condition. Minor nicks along the sheet edges.
